Who We Are

Remember that nothing is small in the eyes of God. Do all that you do with love.” -St. Therese of Lisieux

Our Lady of Light is a small, Catholic outreach mission in Pilsen.

Our mission is affiliated with the Old Catholic Church, which has its foundation in the Church of Rome, through the Archdiocese of Utrecht and the Union of Utrecht that followed. We belong to a family of independent churches, all in communion with each other. Our group, known as Old Catholics or Independent Catholics, has its origins in the 8th century, when our particular branch of Roman Catholicism was given the autonomy to choose its own bishops. When the Vatican promoted the doctrine of papal infallibility in the 19th century, and we objected to such a large amount of authority being placed in the hands of one individual rather than a church council or larger body, we were granted independence from Rome and the ability to elect our own bishops.

All of that to say, we may not be Roman, but we are Catholic. More importantly, we are striving to bring peace, love, and light in the name of Christ Our Lord to every person we encounter. We are small, but working earnestly to minister to the Chicago community! As St. Therese of Lisisux said, “Remember that nothing is small in the eyes of God. Do all that you do with love.”

We would love to have you join us and grow a community together, one that worships the Lord and loves one another.
