Today, the third Sunday of Advent, is also known as Gaudete Sunday, or the “Sunday of Joy” as Pope Francis likes to refer to it. It is one of the more unique days of the year, where the liturgical color is rose, in contrast to the more penitential color purple used throughout the season of Advent. It’s a day that the Gospel not only reminds us of the mission of St. John the Baptist, but also of the incredible joy of the coming birth of Christ. The other readings, notably, remind us too of our Christian responsibility to care for the poor. This season is a reminder to hold space for joy and gratitude for everything we have been blessed with, and to bless others in return. Today, I invite you to do a small exercise in mindfulness: think of one thing that gives you joy—and share it with someone else.
With joy,
Fr. Felix
